• They will be required to have sat and passed all the six sections of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) exams administered by Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB). At this point one is registered as a CPA without conferment of any special privileges.
• Apply for CPA (K) status through ICPAK, which deals with licensing of qualified CPAs.
  Application fee for this is as follows:
  • Residents Kshs. 6,000
  • Non-residents Kshs. 8,000

Those who desire to practice are required to obtain a special license issued by ICPAK.

REQUIREMENTS OF OBTAINING A LICENCE

An applicant must:-

• Be registered as a member of I.C.P.A.K
• Provide copies of registration certificate from I.C.P.A.K which must be certified by an advocate of the High court of Kenya to whom the applicant is known. Alternatively, the copies may be certified at the institute offices on presentation of the original copies.
• Be members of I.C.P.A.K in good standing at the time of application.
• Provide a letter from a practicing firm of accountants in confirmation of the applicant’s two years experience in independent audit work.
• Provide letters of reference from employer(s) covering the previous two years confirming the applicant’s professional integrity.
• Provide statements from two referees detailing their knowledge of the applicant particularly as relates to matters of integrity.
• Sign a declaration committing to fulfill any requirements set by I.C.P.A.K relating to Continuing Professional Education, audit quality review and professional indemnity for practicing accountants.
• If non Kenyan, he should enclose a copy of a valid work permit certified by an advocate of the High Court of Kenya to whom the applicant is known.
• Pay an application fee which is Kshs 10,000 for Kenyans and Kshs 15,000 for non Kenyans.
