Overview

The changes in computer, information and communication technology are influencing all aspects of the business world, from marketing and networking to research and development. Technology has been described as both a business enabler and business disrupter.

Technology as a business enabler has widened the scope of doing business creating new products and segments. The global economy has witnessed ever expanding trade in the digital space ranging from E-commerce, online marketing, mobile money, crypto currency and all manner of technology driven ventures.  These multi-billion dollar ventures present a huge opportunity for tax base expansion. However, due to the virtual nature of business conducted by these digital technology companies, tax loopholes were invariably created, preventing countries from collecting taxes on profits from such companies.

Information technology has further affected business processes making them more transparent and efficient. New electronic methods (ERP systems cloud computing) along with integrated tax management systems, are top of mind for tax authorities, tax practitioners, and tax payers in general.

It’s apparent that changes in technology have dramatically changed the tax compliance landscape. It is against this backdrop that ICPAK has organized a 1-day workshop on Tax Compliance and Emerging Issues themed ‘Tax compliance in the era of changing technologyto bring together accountants, auditors, tax advisors and administrators to interact and improve their knowledge on the continuous need for tax compliance and the tax impact of the emerging issues on various organizations.

Objectives

(i) To appreciate the application of technology in tax (income tax and  customs duty) compliance.

(ii) To explore the use of technology in tax payer facilitation.

(iii) To understand taxation of the digital economy under Current tax provision.

(iv)   Trends in Kenya tax Ratios and Tax efforts indices and their implication for future tax reforms.

(v)   To understand tax issues in the shadow economy

5.0 National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement

Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations.
