THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA

(established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)

ASSOCIATES’ FORUM

Date:13th October 2017

Time: 9.00am to 4.00pm

Venue: Meridian Hotel, Nairobi.

Theme: Accountants’ Greatest Concerns in 2017 and Beyond

Overview

Accountants working in small and medium-sized practices (SMPs) around the world are facing heightened staffing challenges, according to the latest survey by IFAC Global SMP. Attracting new clients, keeping up with new regulations/standards, and pressure to lower fees remain key challenges faced by SMPs.

As trusted business advisors to small- and medium-sized entities, a sector critical to global economic stability and growth, SMPs need to consider how they can best leverage technological advances to reduce costs and offer value-added services to meet clients’ changing demands and expectations.

As part of member professional development, ICPAK has organized this Associates’ Forum with a focus on:

  1. Career Planning and Development

Accountants aspiring to become multitalented leaders need to move beyond routine finance & accounting responsibilities. There’s need to have a broader perspective and a wider set of capabilities and skills. The accountancy profession has a critical role to play to ensure that professional accountants acquire and leverage the necessary technical knowledge and skills.

  1. Self-marketing and Networking Strategies

Accountants generate new business via referrals. Although accountants possess special expertise in what they do and can build trusting relationships with clients, they struggle with marketing/selling skills. For many accountants, projecting their expertise and their unique value is challenging.

  1. The future of the accounting profession

The accounting profession is evolving rapidly. Accountants today have skills and resources that accountants three to five years ago, only wished for. With technology and software solutions evolving, the future of accounting may be very different from the reality we see today. In this forum, we shall explore what the accounting industry will look like in a few years to come.

  1. Emerging Issues

The Company’s Act 2015 and Amendments 2017.
