THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA

(established under the Accountant Act, Laws of Kenya)

Audit Quality Assurance Workshop – Nyanza Branch

22nd – 23rd March 2018

VENUE: Acacia Premier– Kisumu

TIME: 9am to 4pm

Theme: Embedding Quality in Small and Medium size Practices (SMPs)

Auditors play a key role in contributing to the credibility of the Financial Statements on which they are reporting. As such, they have an obligation to carry out a quality audit to support their opinion of the Financial Statements. International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) and International Standard on Quality Control (ISQC) 1 provide guidelines to enable practitioners to carry out quality audits. It is critical that auditors are aware of these guidelines and are equipped to put them into practise in their day to day operations.

The majority of practioners in Kenya are in the category of Small and Medium size Practices (SMPs). SMPs face inherent challenges such as threats to independence and human resources due to their size and nature while implementing audit quality control policies and procedures. Despite these challenges, SMPs are expected to still carry out quality audits and comply with the Code of Ethics of Accountants and other relevant rules and regulations.

It is with this in mind that ICPAK has organized a two day workshop that will focus on enhancing quality in the day to day operations of SMPs. Participants will be engaged in discussing and formulating practical ways of implementing quality control and ensuring that they carry out quality engagements.

Learning Objectives

  1. Create a deeper and practical understanding of the participants’ role in driving quality in their firms and engagements.
  2. Equip participants with the tools to develop and implement quality control procedures in their practices.
  3. Improve understanding of the professional ethics and NOCLAR and their application in SMPs
  4. Overview of the role of client management in quality engagements and reporting
  5. Highlight and provide solutions to challenges facing SMPs in the area of quality assurance
