Overview

The covid 19 pandemic saw various business entities move towards embracing technology and remote operating setting. This therefore led to a spike in adoption of Information technology solutions in majority of the business processes and procedures and brought about increased efficiency and improved businesses processes but has also saw its fair share of challenges. Cyber-attacks on enterprises have increased in frequency hence realizing a need for continuous reevaluation of security controls to mitigate data security risks and avert catastrophic losses that could impact an entity’s competitive edge, reputation, and relationship with stakeholders.

Implementing appropriate and effective cyber security controls can better protect an organization from such risks and might not involve significant budgetary impact on resources in comparison to the value of the data and information involved. Cyber security controls are the processes an organization can put in place for protection from dangerous network vulnerabilities and data hacks. These controls are meant to detect and mitigate threats to network data since its practically impossible prevent all attacks in the current threat landscape, cyber security controls therefore reduce the overall threat of exposure.

The modern accountant should therefore be well placed to analyze on the growing risk and advice on steps and measures businesses should take to mitigate such risks and ensure continuity and growth since cyber security is no longer about computers and technology but also involves people, information, systems, and processes.
