OVERVIEW
In a time of greater demands for transparency and accountability and all with limited budget thresholds, accountants in the public sector are expected to have a wide-ranging knowledge base. The professionals responsible for delivering a public service or using public authority have a duty to report both the financial and the non-financial results on public funds entrusted to them. This can be achieved through good public financial governance by Strengthening fiscal frameworks to enhance predictability and affordability, improving the quality of spending through better budget preparation, prioritizing functional budget-execution practices, strengthening accounting practice, operationalizing procurement reforms and developing strategic, appropriate and owned integrated financial management solutions.
In spite of promising results, major challenges still remain. Progress made has been very uneven and a number of Counties and public entities suffer from poor management of financial resources.
In light of the above the Institute has organized a two days workshop to cover the following topical areas;
- Transitioning from IPSAS Cash to IPSAS Accrual
- Assets and liabilities policy and its implication on Accrual Accounting.
- Accounting measurement and disclosure
- Discussions on the challenges faced by public sector professionals in compliance to IPSAS and PFM Guidelines
- Changing roles of finance professionals and the future of public sector accounting and finance
- Professional Ethics in relation to PFM
- Public Investment and appraisal
- Off-balance sheet Finance
- IFMIS & Technological trends in PFM
- IPSAS Overview/Guideline/Implementation/updates
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNITS (CPD UNITS)
Members of ICPAK and those from reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 14 Structured CPD Units upon successfully completion of the workshop.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT:
The workshop charges are Kshs. 10,000. Charges will cater for the workshop fees, learning materials, and e-certificates of attendance.

NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AUTHORITY (NITA) REIMBURSEMENT:
The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations.
