THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA
(Established under the Accountants Act, Laws of Kenya)

Leadership and Integrity Workshop  – Recording
Theme: Enhancing performance and accountability of organizations through improved leadership practices
Date: 30th – 31st December 2021
Time: 9.00am – 3.30pm
Venue: Virtual

Overview:
As the effects of the Covid 19 Pandemic are coming to the fore, it is a critical time for leaders to develop the necessary skills that would necessitate the development of resilient return to work plans as well and strengthen the internal controls for the nation and for the organizations they oversee. This seminar will provide an avenue for leaders to share knowledge and key lessons on critical governance aspects regarding the main strategic priorities for the country during the recovery period. Lessons on effective virtual oversight, leadership skills and setting the right tone at the top in setting the risk appetite frameworks for their organizations will also be discussed.

Leadership in business is the capacity of a company’s management to set and achieve challenging goals, take fast and decisive action when needed, outperform the competition, and inspire others to perform at their highest levels. Leadership also speaks to a more holistic approach, such as the tone of an organization or the culture that management establishes. Individuals with strong leadership skills in the business world often rise to executive positions. Good leadership also includes setting a positive example for staff to follow, by being excited about the work, being motivated to learn new things, receiving feedback, and helping as needed in both individual and team activities.

Effective leadership includes exhibiting a strong character. Leaders exhibit honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, and ethics. Leaders act in line with how they speak and earn the right to be responsible for others’ success in the organization. Strong leadership involves clear communication skills. Leaders speak with and listen to staff members, respond to questions and concerns, and are empathetic. Leaders use effective communication skills for moving the company forward and achieving new levels of success.

Internal and external opportunities and challenges mean that leaders must sometimes manage change and/or implement new approaches to maintain success. Change management also includes preparation for change and developing winning plans for succession. This seminar will help delegates to develop the right strategies for change management and create advance plans for seamless change in times of transition.

It is against this background that the Institute has organized this leadership & integrity seminar to discuss these critical developments which affect leaders, and which have resulted into new risks for organizations.

To guide the discussion during the seminar, the following shall be the main topics of discussion:
• Leadership skills required in a time of crisis.
• Providing effective virtual oversight and critical delegation practices for leaders during a crisis
• Development and implementation of anti-corruption policies and reporting frameworks
• Implementation of whistleblower policies and systems
• A Leader and a boss: Where do we draw the line?
