Introduction
The role of management accounting involves preparation of management reports and accounts that provide accurate and timely financial and statistical information to management with the goal of enabling short-term and long-term decision-making processes. The role has morphed into strategic management accounting which has been defined as the use of management accounting systems in supporting strategic decision making.
Thus, the role of the management accountant has evolved with organizational needs from merely collecting financial information and preparing reports to actively participating in the planning and strategizing processes for firms. This elevates the management accountant to a business analysis role and requires organization structures to mirror these changes. These changes in turn necessitate matching dynamism amongst professional accountants, especially those in management accounting roles.
