Tax Principles Workshop
Theme: The Building Blocks of a Sound Tax System

OVERVIEW
The objective of this workshop is to give participants an introduction into the general principles of taxation. Discussion topics shall include taxation of businesses & individuals, capital gains tax, VAT, transfer pricing tax, Customs & Excise duty and emerging issues in taxation.
The workshop will examine the philosophical foundations of tax law, how they are influenced by accounting developments and the ways in which companies can enhance compliance. Other issues to be covered are impact of trading blocks on taxation, emerging issues in the international taxation, and constitutional issues relating to the use of ‘discretion’ by the Tax Authority.
The one day workshop offers a forum for participants to keep abreast with the increasing complexity of taxes and emerging issues in taxation
Learning Outcomes
At the end of workshop, participants will have achieved the following objectives:
- Have an appreciation of the basic applications of the taxation laws
- Demonstrate an understanding of the tax treatment of partnerships and trusts
- Have an appreciation of the importance of taxation in business decisions.
- Be able to learn the framework to evaluate taxation issues, a foundation for further study in the advanced taxation courses, and provide a general level of awareness of taxation matters for future use.
- Demonstrate an understanding of emerging trends in taxation

National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement
The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations.
