Tax Principles Workshop

Theme: Taxation in the Context of Globalization and Digitization

Date: 30th – 31st January 2020

Overview

ICPAK has organized a two-day workshop to provide a platform on which tax practitioners, consultants and academicians will interactively engage and discuss changes that will be occasioned by the new Finance Act, 2019 that President assented on 7th November 2019.

The objective of the workshop is to dispense knowledge to finance and tax professionals in order to build their core tax knowledge by simplifying the complexity of tax. This is achieved by providing attendees with not only the theoretically knowledge of the various regulations, but a practical understanding of their implications to their organizations.

This workshop is designed to provide participants with the essentials of taxation and also give an intensive study of the current tax laws and regulations governing individuals, corporations and businesses.

Discussion topics shall include:

  1. Amendments introduced by new Finance Act 2019
  2. Tax Disputes and Litigation Practice
  3. Tax Implications and Policy Responses to the Digital Economy, and the Digitization of the Economy
  4. Key Considerations when transacting with related entities
  5. Accountability of completed taxes (Treasury Empowering Tax Agents to Educate Public on behalf of KRA.)

Learning Outcomes

At the end of workshop, participants will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of changes introduced by the Finance Act, 2019
  • Appreciate the role of the Tax Appeals Tribunal and the Courts in the Tax dispute resolution process.
  • Appreciate and critique the application of the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Tax dispute Resolution in Kenya.
  • Have an appreciation of the basic applications of the taxation laws;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the tax litigation process;
  • Have an appreciation of the importance of taxation in business decisions; and
  • Enhance ones’ foundation on tax matters with an aim to specialize in their respective areas of choice;
  • Update on emerging trends in taxation

1.0 Continuous Professional Development Units (CPD Units)

Members of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 14 CPD Units upon successfully attending all workshop sessions

Tax partners & tax practitioners, Tax Accountants, Finance and non-finance officers involved in handling tax issues, KRA tax officers, Representatives of KAM, FKE, KEPSA, KEBS, COFEK, National Tax Payers’ Association

4.0 Workshop Travel and Accommodation Information (VERY IMPORTANT)

International and local delegates who will attend the event are advised to make their own preferred travel and accommodation arrangements to the event in advance- this is at delegates own cost

Delegates from other nationalities who want to attend are requested to check with their Kenyan Embassy/ High Commission for their travel requirements. We will assist with letters of invitation or any other confirmations that may be needed to facilitate issuance of VISAs

8.0 National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement

The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations. Remember that to qualify you should apply to NITA for approval prior to the date of the conference. Further details can be obtained from their website (www.nita.go.ke).
