SUMMARY:International Non-Profit Accounting Standard -INPAS (virtual option)
DESCRIPTION:THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nInternational Non-Profit Accounting Standard (INPAS) (virtual option)\nTheme:\nDate: 1st -2nd October 2026\nTime: 9:00 am to 03.30pm\nVenue: Virtual Delivery \nOverview \nNon-Profit Organizations (NPOs)\, Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs)\, and civil society entities play a critical role in driving socio-economic development\, humanitarian response\, and community empowerment across Kenya and the broader East African region. Managing substantial financial resources from international donors\, local grantors\, and public contributions\, these organizations operate under heightened expectations for financial stewardship\, transparency\, and accountability. \nDespite their economic weight and social impact\, the non-profit sector has historically lacked a single\, globally recognized financial reporting framework tailored specifically to its non-commercial realities. Conventional accounting frameworks—such as IFRS for commercial enterprises or IPSAS for public sector institutions—do not fully address specialized NPO transactions. Key accounting challenges faced by practitioners include the treatment of restricted vs. unrestricted donor contributions\, multi-currency grant management\, overhead cost allocations\, volunteer services\, and non-reciprocal transfers. \nTo address these structural reporting gaps\, international initiatives have driven the adoption of standardized non-profit guidance—widely referenced as the International Non-Profit Accounting Guidance (INPAG/INPAS) framework. This framework introduces consistent accounting principles designed to harmonize financial disclosures\, eliminate donor reporting fragmentation\, and build long-term institutional credibility. \nTo support finance practitioners in implementing these evolving standards\, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) has organized this two-day intensive workshop at the CPA Center. The course will provide finance directors\, grants managers\, accountants\, and auditors with practical tools to navigate INPAG/INPAS mechanics\, strengthen internal controls\, avoid donor audit disallowances\, and ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements such as the PBO framework in Kenya. \nTopics \n\nOverview & Core Foundations of INPAS / Non-Profit Reporting\n\n\nPurpose\, scope\, and objectives of international non-profit reporting standards.\nKey differences between commercial financial reporting (IFRS)\, public sector reporting (IPSAS)\, and non-profit guidance (INPAG/INPAS).\nFundamental concepts: Accounting for non-reciprocal transfers\, donor-imposed restrictions\, and fund accounting mechanics.\n\n\nRevenue Recognition & Grant Accounting\n\n\nRecognition and measurement of conditional vs. unconditional donor contributions.\nAccounting treatment for multi-currency donor projects and foreign exchange fluctuation management.\nValuation and disclosure of in-kind contributions\, donated services\, and volunteer time.\n\n\nFinancial Statement Presentation & Disclosures in NPOs\n\n\nStructure and components of NPO financial statements (Statement of Financial Position\, Performance\, and Cash Flows).\nPrinciples of fund accounting: Segregation of restricted\, temporarily restricted\, and unrestricted funds.\nEnhanced disclosure requirements for donor commitments\, grant balances\, and administrative vs. program expense ratios.\n\n\nGrant Compliance\, Cost Allocation & Disallowed Costs\n\n\nMethodologies for direct and indirect cost allocations across multiple donor programs.\nManaging grant terms\, time-bound commitments\, and compliance tracking.\nIdentifying and mitigating risks that lead to disallowed costs in donor audits.\n\n\nInternal Controls\, Risk Management & Audit Preparedness\n\n\nDesigning robust internal control frameworks tailored to decentralized field operations and donor project execution.\nFraud prevention\, dual-authorization protocols\, and procurement compliance in donor-funded projects.\nPreparing for external donor audits\, statutory audits\, and specialized compliance reviews.\n\n\nStatutory\, Tax & Regulatory Compliance for NPOs in Kenya\n\n\nNavigating the regulatory landscape for NGOs and Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) in Kenya.\nTax obligations\, statutory exemptions\, withholding tax considerations\, and PAYE for grant-funded personnel.\nStatutory reporting and annual returns filing requirements for civil society organizations.\n\nTarget Audience \nThis workshop will be useful to all professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the profession. \nFinancial Commitment \nThe webinar charges are Kshs. 10\,000. SUMMARY:Sustainability Reporting Course (virtual option)
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nSustainability Reporting Course (virtual option)\nTheme: Advancing Sustainability Reporting: From Compliance to Value Creation\nDate: 8th -9th October  2026\nTime: 9.00am-3.30pm\nVenue: Virtual Delivery \nOverview \nHow can organizations effectively respond to growing stakeholder expectations for transparent\, reliable\, and decision-useful sustainability disclosures while meeting emerging global reporting requirements? \nSustainability reporting has rapidly evolved from a voluntary corporate responsibility exercise into a critical component of corporate governance\, risk management\, and strategic decision-making. Investors\, regulators\, lenders\, customers\, and other stakeholders increasingly require organizations to disclose how sustainability-related risks and opportunities affect their business model\, strategy\, financial performance\, and long-term value creation. \nThe global sustainability reporting landscape has undergone significant transformation following the establishment of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the issuance of IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures. These standards establish a global baseline for sustainability-related financial disclosures and are increasingly influencing reporting expectations across jurisdictions\, industries\, and capital markets. \nOrganizations are now expected to go beyond broad sustainability narratives by demonstrating strong governance\, effective risk management\, measurable performance\, and credible climate-related disclosures. This includes identifying\, measuring\, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions\, climate-related risks and opportunities\, sustainability metrics\, and transition plans. As a result\, organizations must strengthen their reporting capabilities\, data management processes\, internal controls\, and readiness for assurance. \nProfessional accountants are at the centre of this transformation. Their expertise in reporting\, governance\, assurance\, internal controls\, performance measurement\, and risk management positions them to play a critical role in the implementation of sustainability reporting frameworks and standards. As organizations increasingly integrate sustainability considerations into business strategy and decision-making\, accountants must develop the practical competencies required to prepare\, review\, and support sustainability disclosures. \nIn line with its mandate to promote high standards of professional competence and support the accountancy profession\, ICPAK has organized this course to equip participants with practical knowledge and implementation skills in sustainability reporting. The training will provide guidance on applying IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 requirements\, conducting materiality assessments\, measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions\, developing sustainability disclosures\, establishing sustainability metrics and targets\, strengthening sustainability data governance\, and preparing organizations for sustainability assurance requirements. \nKey Topics     \n\n\n\nDAY\nMODULE\nTOPICS\n\n\n\n\nDAY 1\nA.   Understanding and Implementing IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards\n·         Overview of the ISSB Sustainability Disclosure Framework \n·         IFRS S1 – General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information \n·         IFRS S2 – Climate-related Disclosures \n·         Sustainability-related risks and opportunities \n·         Integration of sustainability reporting with financial reporting \n·         Governance responsibilities for sustainability reporting \n \n\n\nB.   Materiality Assessment and Sustainability Risk Identification\n·         Principles of sustainability materiality assessment \n·         Identifying sustainability-related risks and opportunities \n·         Stakeholder engagement and value chain considerations \n·         Risk and opportunity assessment methodologies \n·         Documentation and evidence requirements \n·         Integrating sustainability considerations into enterprise risk management \n \n\n\nC.   Climate Reporting and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions\n·         Climate-related disclosure requirements under IFRS S2 \n·         Understanding greenhouse gas emissions \n·         Scope 1 emissions \n·         Scope 2 emissions \n·         Scope 3 emissions \n·         GHG Protocol principles and reporting considerations \n·         Measuring\, calculating\, and reporting GHG emissions \n·         Common implementation challenges and practical solutions\n\n\nDAY 2\nD.   Sustainability Metrics\, Targets\, and Data Management\n·         Sustainability metrics and performance indicators \n·         Climate-related metrics and targets \n·         Sustainability data collection and management systems \n·         Internal controls over sustainability information \n·         Data governance and data quality management \n·         Monitoring and evaluating sustainability performance\n\n\nE.     Developing Sustainability Disclosures and Reports\n·         Governance disclosures \n·         Strategy disclosures \n·         Risk management disclosures \n·         Metrics and targets disclosures \n·         Preparing IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 aligned sustainability reports \n·         Common reporting challenges and how to address them \n·         Practical case studies and reporting exercises \n \n\n\nF.   Sustainability Assurance and Emerging Developments\n·         Sustainability assurance landscape \n·         Limited versus reasonable assurance \n·         Internal audit and sustainability reporting \n·         Greenwashing risks and reporting integrity \n·         Emerging sustainability reporting trends \n·         Future developments in sustainability disclosures and regulation \n \n\n\n\n Target Audience: \nThis training will be useful to all professional Accountants and professionals from all relevant cross-cutting disciplines since sustainability reporting and the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards are professional agnostic. \nContinuous Professional Development Units (CPD Units): \nMembers of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 10 CPD Units upon successfully attending the session. \nCost: \nCharges for the training will be Kes 10\,000/= which will cover workshop fees\, materials\, and e-certificates of attendance. \nOnline Booking: \nWe call on Seminar participants to note that booking for is available only online at www.icpak.com/events and will close two hours before the training session.  Delegates are reminded to note that online booking for training sessions is mandatory.   This is available either online at www.icpak.com/events  or on the ICPAK Live – A smart phone-based application that is available from google store. \nNational Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement: \nThe Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. SUMMARY:Risk Registers Development course (virtual option)
DESCRIPTION:THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nRisk Register Development Course (Virtual option)\nTheme: From Identification to Action: A Practical Approach to Risk Register Development and Governance\nDate: 15th – 16th October 2026\nVenue: Virtual Delivery\nTime: 09.00am-03.30pm \nOverview \nOrganizations today operate in an increasingly dynamic and uncertain environment characterized by rapid technological advancement\, evolving regulatory requirements\, cybersecurity threats\, economic volatility\, environmental and social considerations\, and changing stakeholder expectations. These developments have elevated the importance of effective risk management as a critical component of good governance\, organizational resilience\, and sustainable performance. \nAt the heart of an effective risk management framework is the risk register\, a structured tool that enables organizations to identify\, assess\, prioritize\, monitor\, and respond to risks that may affect the achievement of strategic and operational objectives. A well-developed risk register provides management and oversight bodies with a clear view of the organization’s risk landscape\, promotes accountability through the assignment of risk ownership\, supports informed decision-making\, and strengthens organizational resilience. \nModern organizations increasingly recognize risk registers as more than compliance documents. When properly developed and maintained\, risk registers become strategic management tools that facilitate proactive risk identification\, assessment of risk significance\, evaluation of control effectiveness\, prioritization of key risks\, and monitoring of mitigation actions. Integration of risk registers within broader Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks further strengthens alignment between risk management activities\, organizational strategy\, performance objectives\, and risk appetite. \nDeveloping an effective risk register requires a systematic process that begins with risk identification and progresses through risk classification\, assessment\, prioritization\, response planning\, assignment of ownership\, monitoring\, reporting\, and periodic review. Organizations often face challenges in developing risk registers that accurately capture significant risks\, reflect changing business conditions\, and support informed decision-making. Consequently\, professionals responsible for governance\, finance\, audit\, compliance\, and risk management require practical skills to develop\, maintain\, and utilize risk registers as effective management and governance tools. \nProfessional accountants play a critical role in governance\, internal control\, risk management\, and organizational accountability. Their involvement in strategic planning\, financial stewardship\, compliance monitoring\, and assurance activities places them in a unique position to contribute to effective risk identification\, assessment\, monitoring\, and reporting processes. Global frameworks such as ISO 31000 and COSO Enterprise Risk Management Framework emphasize the importance of embedding risk-aware thinking throughout organizations to support sustainable value creation and preservation. \nIn line with its mandate to develop\, support\, and regulate the accountancy profession while promoting high standards of governance and professional excellence\, ICPAK has organized this practical course to equip participants with the knowledge\, tools\, templates\, and hands-on skills required to develop and maintain effective risk registers. Through practical exercises\, case studies\, and guided workshops\, participants will be taken through the complete risk register development process—from risk identification and assessment to mitigation planning\, monitoring\, reporting\, and continuous improvement. \nThe course is designed to cover the following topics:\n1. SUMMARY:Sustainability Reporting Workshop 2026 Virtual
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nSustainability Reporting Workshop 2026\nTheme: : Advancing Sustainability Reporting: From Readiness to Implementation\nDate: 21st-22nd October 2026\nTime: 9.00am-3.30pm\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nCorporate reporting is undergoing a profound transformation as investors\, regulators\, lenders and other stakeholders increasingly demand transparent\, reliable and decision-useful information on sustainability-related risks and opportunities. Organizations are now expected to demonstrate not only their financial performance but also how environmental\, social and governance (ESG) factors influence their strategy\, governance\, risk management\, and long-term value creation. \nThe introduction of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) marks a significant milestone in the evolution of corporate reporting. These standards establish a global baseline for sustainability-related financial disclosures\, enabling organizations to provide consistent\, comparable and investor-focused sustainability information alongside their financial statements. \nIn Kenya\, the publication of the ICPAK Roadmap for Adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards signals a strategic commitment to advancing sustainability reporting and aligning the country’s reporting framework with international best practice. Consequently\, sustainability reporting is rapidly transitioning from a voluntary practice to an essential component of corporate reporting and governance. \nDespite these developments\, many organizations remain inadequately prepared to implement the new reporting requirements. Preparers of financial statements and sustainability reports continue to face significant challenges in understanding the principles underpinning IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. They encounter challenges in identifying material sustainability-related risks and opportunities\, collecting reliable data\, establishing effective governance structures and integrating sustainability information into existing reporting processes. \nAs organizations embark on this transition\, there is an urgent need to build technical capacity among finance professionals\, accountants and report preparers to ensure that sustainability disclosures are credible\, consistent\, comparable and decision-useful. Equally important is strengthening institutional readiness to support effective implementation and compliance with the emerging reporting landscape including GHG accounting and as well as sustainability assurance readiness. \nThis symposium has therefore been designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to understand and implement the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. Successful implementation of this training will significantly enhance the quality and reliability of sustainability reporting across both the public and private sectors. \nThe workshop will focus on the following key topics:\n1. Understanding Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 & S2) \nDetailed discussion of the objectives\, scope\, structure and key disclosure requirements of IFRS S1 & S2 & the Roadmap for adoption of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. \n2. Materiality and Sustainability-related financial information. \nApplication of materiality principles\, identification of sustainability-related risks and opportunities and determining information relevant to investors.\n3. Climate-related Financial Disclosures \nGovernance\, strategy\, risk management\, metrics & targets and climate-related financial risks under IFRS S2. \n4. Preparing Quality Sustainability Reports (2 practical sessions)\nPractical guidance on data collection\, internal controls\, governance arrangements\, reporting processes and enhancing the credibility of sustainability information. \n5. Integrating Financial and Sustainability Reporting\nStrengthening connectivity between financial statements and sustainability disclosures to provide holistic corporate reporting. \n6. GHG emission accounting\nUnderstanding GHG emission accounting\, the GHG Protocol and scopes 1\,2\, and 3 \n7. Sustainability assurance\nAn oversee and appreciation of the requirements of ISSA 5000 for effective sustainability assurance readiness and implementation. \nTARGET AUDIENCE \nMembers of Boards in public and private corporations\, Chief Finance Officers\, Finance Directors and Managers\, Private and Public Audit Practitioners\, Public Sector Accountants\, Transaction Advisors\, Engagement Partners and Key Audit staff\, Banking\, Financial services sector Accountants\, Internal Auditors\, Tax Practitioners\, Professionals working in Government and private sectors\, Accountants in Academia\, current and potential members of ICPAK\, members of other professional associations. Its members work in diverse sectors of the economy as accountants\, financial experts\, auditors\, financial consultants among other careers within the larger definition of accountancy. Over 1500 of our members have emigrated and are working beyond the borders of Kenya. Members of the Institute are present in 44 different countries around the globe. \nANNUAL SEMINARS – A BRIEF HISTORY \nFor over four decades\, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) has sustained a strong tradition of convening its members annually to reflect on the evolving accountancy profession and emerging issues shaping the national\, regional and global landscape. Since the inaugural Annual Seminar held in 1984\, the forum has grown into the Institute’s flagship professional development event\, symbolizing resilience\, unity and the profession’s unwavering commitment to the public interest. \nThis edition aims to discuss how trust and credibility remain fundamental to the functioning of economies\, institutions\, organizations and societies. In an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world\, the ability of institutions and professionals to earn\, maintain and restore trust is becoming more important than ever. The global environment is being shaped by economic uncertainty\, technological disruption\, changing patterns of work\, sustainability challenges\, geopolitical developments and increasing demands for transparency and accountability. These changes are reshaping how governments\, businesses and professional institutions operate and how citizens and stakeholders assess their credibility. \nFor Kenya\, these developments come at a particularly important time. The country continues to pursue economic transformation while navigating fiscal pressures\, public debt\, changing global economic conditions\, institutional challenges and the need for sustainable and inclusive growth. At the same time\, organizations are under increasing pressure to demonstrate not only financial performance\, but also responsible leadership\, sustainability\, resilience and long-term value creation. Against this backdrop\, the accountancy profession has a critical role to play. Accountants and other professionals are entrusted with financial information\, public resources\, organizational decision-making and the assurance of credibility. Their responsibility therefore extends beyond technical compliance to include professional integrity\, ethical leadership\, accountability and the protection of the public interest. \nThe 43rd ICPAK Annual Seminar – Edition II therefore seeks to provide a high-level platform for professionals\, policymakers\, government leaders\, business leaders\, international organizations and other stakeholders to examine the changing nature of trust and credibility and the role of professionals in shaping Kenya’s future. \n\n\n\nDate\nTheme\nTopics\n\n\nDay One: Monday 9th Nov 2026\nArrival & Registration \nNetworking\n\n\nDay Two: Tuesday 10th Nov 2026\nNational Leadership & Governance \n1.    The Role of Professionals in Safeguarding Public Trust \n2.    National Leadership & Governance: The professional perspective \n3.    The role of professionals in driving National Transformation \n4.    Accountancy Profession’s Contribution to National Growth and Development \n5.    The Accountancy Profession’s Role in Building a Sustainable Future \n6.    Economic headwinds and resilience of the Nation \n7.    The role of professionals in entrenching good governance\, combating corruption and supporting the Zero- fault audit initiative \n8.    The Role of Professionals in Safeguarding Public Trust & Advancing National Growth and Transformation\n\n\nDay Three: Wednesday 11th Nov 2026\nThe Accountancy Profession \n1.    The role of accountants in restoring stakeholder confidence and trust through effective reporting \n2.    State of the accountancy profession in Africa \n3.    IPSAS Accrual Accounting: Overview of milestones and benefits in government migration to accrual accounting. \n4.    Sealing tax loopholes for enhanced government revenue generation \n5.    Overview of new and proposed KRA initiatives \n6.    Leadership in a Changing World: Rebuilding Public Trust and Confidence in Institutions\n\n\nDay Four: Thursday 12th Nov 2026\nSustainability\, Technology & Leadership \n1.    Adoption of IFRS S1 & S2 by Public Interest Entities (PIEs) \n2.    Building Organizations That Matter: Sustainability\, Purpose and Long-Term Value \n3.    Beyond Compliance: Why Sustainability Will Define the Competitiveness of Nations and Organizations \n4.    The Accountant of the Future: From Financial Stewardship to Value\, Trust and Sustainable Transformation \n5.    Positioning accountants as business leaders and trusted advisors: Panel discussion of CEOs & business leaders \n·         Leading integrational teams \n·         Transformational leadership practices \n6.    Technology\, Automation and the Changing Profession\n\n\nDay Five: Friday 13th Nov 2026\nPersonal Development \n1.    The Power of Wellbeing: Health\, Fitness and Wellness for a Thriving Professional Life \nFire Side Chat: Building resilience\, grit and endurance \n2.    Ethical Leadership: Accountability\, Integrity and the Choices we Make\n\n\n\nTARGET AUDIENCE: \nThis workshop will be useful to all professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the profession \nCONFERENCE CHARGES \n\n\n\nDetails\nAmount\n\n\nAssociate Members\nKes. 64\,000 per Delegate\n\n\nFull Members\nKes. 69\,000 per Delegate\n\n\nNon-Members\nKes. 74\,000 per Delegate\n\n\nVirtual Option (Members)\nKes. 25\,000 per Delegate\n\n\nVirtual Option (Non-Members)\nKes. 25\,000 per Delegate\n\n\nAccommodation\nDelegates are advised to make own accommodation arrangements\n\n\n\nBookings Deadline: Bookings close on Friday\, 6th November 2026 at 17:00 pm \nCONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNITS \nMembers of ICPAK and other reciprocating professional bodies will earn 20 Structured CPD points upon successfully attending the 43rd Annual Seminar Edition 2. \nNATIONAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AUTHORITY (NITA) REIMBURSEMENT \nThe Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority.
