SUMMARY:ICPAK South African Chapter Overview of IFRS S1 and S2
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nICPAK South African Chapter – Overview of IFRS S1 and S2\nDate: 15th October 2026\nTime: 6:00pm – 8:00pm\nMode: Virtual \nOverview \nSustainability reporting has become an essential component of corporate accountability\, providing stakeholders with transparent\, consistent\, and reliable information on an organization’s environmental\, social\, and governance (ESG) impacts. In response to the growing demand for comparable sustainability information\, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has developed a global framework through IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. IFRS S1\, General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information\, establishes a broad framework for communicating sustainability-related risks and opportunities\, while IFRS S2\, Climate-related Disclosures\, focuses specifically on climate-related risks and opportunities and their implications for an organization. \nFor organizations\, the adoption and implementation of these standards is increasingly important in strengthening transparency\, supporting investor confidence\, managing sustainability and climate-related risks\, and promoting long-term organizational resilience. Effective implementation requires organizations to address key operational and strategic considerations\, including data collection and management\, reporting processes\, assurance\, governance\, and disclosures relevant to investors and other stakeholders. Advances in technology and evolving regulatory requirements are also transforming sustainability reporting by enabling more effective data analysis\, improving reporting processes\, and supporting alignment with stakeholder expectations. \nThis webinar will provide valuable insights and guidance to help organizations navigate the evolving landscape of sustainability reporting with the below topics tackled: \n\nIntroduction to the ISSB Framework: The global shift from voluntary ESG reporting to mandatory sustainability financial disclosures.\nUnpacking IFRS S1General Requirements for sustainability-related financial information\n\n\nUnderstanding the four pillars: Governance\, Strategy\, Risk Management\, and Metrics & Targets.a\nIdentifying sustainability-related risks and opportunities that affect enterprise value.\n\n\nUnpacking IFRS S2 (Climate-related Disclosures):\n\n\nOverview of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reporting (Scope 1\, Scope 2\, and Scope 3).\n\n\nEmerging trends and regulatory developments\n\nTarget Audience: \nThis webinar will be useful to all Professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the Profession Sustainability Practitioners\, Consultants\, Auditors\, Advisors \, Investors and Financial Analysts. \nCPD Units: Members who attend the webinar in full will earn 2 Structured CPD Units. \nFinancial Commitment: The Webinar charges are USD 25. SUMMARY:Sustainability Reporting Workshop 2026 Virtual
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nSustainability Reporting Workshop 2026\nTheme: : Advancing Sustainability Reporting: From Readiness to Implementation\nDate: 21st-22nd October 2026\nTime: 9.00am-3.30pm\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nCorporate reporting is undergoing a profound transformation as investors\, regulators\, lenders and other stakeholders increasingly demand transparent\, reliable and decision-useful information on sustainability-related risks and opportunities. Organizations are now expected to demonstrate not only their financial performance but also how environmental\, social and governance (ESG) factors influence their strategy\, governance\, risk management\, and long-term value creation. \nThe introduction of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) marks a significant milestone in the evolution of corporate reporting. These standards establish a global baseline for sustainability-related financial disclosures\, enabling organizations to provide consistent\, comparable and investor-focused sustainability information alongside their financial statements. \nIn Kenya\, the publication of the ICPAK Roadmap for Adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards signals a strategic commitment to advancing sustainability reporting and aligning the country’s reporting framework with international best practice. Consequently\, sustainability reporting is rapidly transitioning from a voluntary practice to an essential component of corporate reporting and governance. \nDespite these developments\, many organizations remain inadequately prepared to implement the new reporting requirements. Preparers of financial statements and sustainability reports continue to face significant challenges in understanding the principles underpinning IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. They encounter challenges in identifying material sustainability-related risks and opportunities\, collecting reliable data\, establishing effective governance structures and integrating sustainability information into existing reporting processes. \nAs organizations embark on this transition\, there is an urgent need to build technical capacity among finance professionals\, accountants and report preparers to ensure that sustainability disclosures are credible\, consistent\, comparable and decision-useful. Equally important is strengthening institutional readiness to support effective implementation and compliance with the emerging reporting landscape including GHG accounting and as well as sustainability assurance readiness. \nThis symposium has therefore been designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to understand and implement the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. Successful implementation of this training will significantly enhance the quality and reliability of sustainability reporting across both the public and private sectors. \nThe workshop will focus on the following key topics:\n1. Understanding Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 & S2) \nDetailed discussion of the objectives\, scope\, structure and key disclosure requirements of IFRS S1 & S2 & the Roadmap for adoption of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. \n2. Materiality and Sustainability-related financial information. \nApplication of materiality principles\, identification of sustainability-related risks and opportunities and determining information relevant to investors.\n3. Climate-related Financial Disclosures \nGovernance\, strategy\, risk management\, metrics & targets and climate-related financial risks under IFRS S2. \n4. Preparing Quality Sustainability Reports (2 practical sessions)\nPractical guidance on data collection\, internal controls\, governance arrangements\, reporting processes and enhancing the credibility of sustainability information. \n5. Integrating Financial and Sustainability Reporting\nStrengthening connectivity between financial statements and sustainability disclosures to provide holistic corporate reporting. \n6. GHG emission accounting\nUnderstanding GHG emission accounting\, the GHG Protocol and scopes 1\,2\, and 3 \n7. SUMMARY:The Future of The Accountancy Profession Webinar
DESCRIPTION:THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nThe Future of The Accountancy Profession\nTheme: Shaping the Future of Accountancy: Artificial Intelligence\, Sustainability Reporting and Professional Ethics\nDate: 30th October 2026\nVenue: Virtual\nTime: 10:00am – 12:00Noon (EAT) \nOverview \nThe accountancy profession is experiencing a period of significant transformation driven by technological innovation\, evolving sustainability reporting requirements\, changing business models and heightened expectations of ethical leadership and accountability. As organisations navigate an increasingly complex operating environment\, accountants are expected to go beyond traditional financial reporting and compliance responsibilities to provide strategic insights\, strengthen governance\, support sustainable decision-making and safeguard public trust. \nArtificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies are changing how accounting and auditing activities are performed. From automating routine processes and analysing large datasets to identifying anomalies and supporting risk assessments\, these technologies offer opportunities to improve efficiency\, accuracy and the value of professional services. However\, their adoption also raises important considerations relating to data privacy\, confidentiality\, algorithmic bias\, professional judgement\, accountability and the need for appropriate human oversight. \nAt the same time\, sustainability reporting is becoming an increasingly important component of corporate accountability and decision-making. The introduction of sustainability disclosure standards\, including IFRS S1 and IFRS S2\, has increased the need for organisations to identify and disclose material sustainability-related risks and opportunities. This presents accountants with opportunities to support implementation\, strengthen reporting systems\, improve the reliability of sustainability information and contribute to assurance engagements. \nThese developments reinforce the importance of professional ethics\, integrity\, independence\, objectivity and professional competence. As the profession adopts new technologies and assumes broader responsibilities\, accountants must ensure that innovation and business transformation remain grounded in ethical conduct and the public interest. \nThe Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) will convene a high-impact expert webinar which will bring together experienced practitioners and thought leaders to examine the forces reshaping accountancy\, explore emerging opportunities and challenges\, and identify practical actions that professionals can take to remain relevant\, trusted and future-ready. \nThe session will provide a platform for knowledge exchange\, professional reflection and forward-looking discussion on the evolving role of accountants in a technology-driven\, sustainability-conscious and ethically demanding business environment. \nTopical areas of discussion: \n\nArtificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Accountancy\nSustainability Reporting and the Expanding Role of Accountants\nProfessional Ethics\, Trust and Accountability\nThe Future-Ready Accountant: Skills\, Opportunities and Professional Relevance\n\nTarget Audience \nThis workshop will be useful to all professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the profession. \nCPD Units \nMembers of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 2 CPD Units upon successfully attending each of the sessions. \nFinancial Commitment \nThe webinar is free of charge \nOnline Booking: \nWe call on Seminar participants to note that booking for is available only online at www.icpak.com/events and will close two hours before the training session.  Delegates are reminded to note that online booking for training sessions is mandatory.   This is available either online at www.icpak.com/events  or on the ICPAK Live – A smart phone-based application that is available from google store. \nNita Reimbursement: \nThe Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. SUMMARY:AML and CFT Audit webinar
DESCRIPTION:NSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nAML and CFT Audit webinar\nDate: 3rd November  2026\nTime: 04.00pm-06.00pm\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nConducting an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) audit is a critical process for auditors\, financial institutions\, regulated entities and other designated professionals to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. These audits evaluate the effectiveness of an organization’s policies\, procedures\, and controls designed to detect\, prevent\, and report money laundering and terrorist financing activities. Auditors assess whether the institution maintains a robust risk-based approach\, adhering to standards set by bodies such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)\, local regulators\, and international guidelines. The primary goal is to identify weaknesses that could expose the organization to financial crime risks\, reputational damage\, or regulatory penalties. Successful audits require a combination of technical expertise\, independence\, and a thorough understanding of evolving threats in the global financial ecosystem. \nThe planning phase sets the foundation for a successful AML/CFT audit. Auditors begin by defining the scope\, objectives\, and timeline\, considering factors like the institution’s size\, customer base\, product offerings\, and geographic operations. A comprehensive risk assessment is conducted to prioritize high-risk areas\, such as correspondent banking\, trade finance\, or dealings with high-risk jurisdictions. Documentation review includes examining the AML/CFT policy framework\, customer due diligence (CDD) procedures\, and transaction monitoring systems. Engagement with key stakeholders\, including compliance officers and senior management\, helps align expectations and gather preliminary insights. Proper planning ensures resources are allocated efficiently and that the audit remains focused on material risks. \nRisk assessment forms the core of the audit methodology. Auditors evaluate the institution’s enterprise-wide risk assessment to determine if it accurately identifies\, measures\, and mitigates AML/CFT exposures. This involves analysing customer risk profiles\, enhanced due diligence (EDD) for politically exposed persons (PEPs)\, and sanctions screening processes. Data analytics tools are often employed to review transaction patterns\, flag suspicious activities\, and test the effectiveness of automated monitoring systems. Qualitative factors\, such as staff training programs and the “tone from the top” in fostering a culture of compliance\, are also scrutinized. Any gaps in risk identification can indicate systemic vulnerabilities that require immediate attention. \nFieldwork and testing procedures involve detailed examination of controls and operations. Auditors perform walkthroughs of key processes\, sample testing of customer files for proper KYC (Know Your Customer) documentation\, and validation of suspicious activity report (SAR) filings. Independent testing of transaction monitoring rules helps verify detection accuracy and false positive rates. Interviews with frontline staff and compliance teams reveal practical implementation challenges. Technology audits may include assessing the reliability of core banking systems and data integrity. These hands-on activities ensure that theoretical policies translate into effective day-to-day practices. \nEvaluation of findings focuses on the adequacy and effectiveness of the AML/CFT program. Auditors rate controls as effective\, partially effective\, or ineffective based on evidence gathered. Common deficiencies include inadequate customer identification\, weak ongoing monitoring\, or insufficient independent testing of the compliance function. Root cause analysis is performed to understand underlying issues\, such as resource constraints or outdated technology. The audit team also benchmarks the institution against industry best practices and regulatory expectations\, providing a holistic view of compliance maturity. This step is crucial for prioritizing remediation efforts. \nThe reporting and follow-up stage closes the audit cycle with actionable recommendations. A clear\, well-structured report is delivered to management and the board\, highlighting strengths\, weaknesses\, and prioritized remedial actions with timelines. Follow-up mechanisms ensure that agreed-upon corrective measures are implemented and tested in subsequent reviews. Continuous monitoring and periodic re-audits help adapt to emerging risks\, such as those posed by new technologies like cryptocurrencies or virtual assets. Ultimately\, a well-conducted AML/CFT audit strengthens the organization’s defenses\, promotes regulatory adherence\, and contributes to the broader fight against financial crime. \nTarget Audience: \nThe webinar will be useful to accountants\, auditors\, academia\, and other designated professionals interested AML and CFT audit \n Continuous Professional Development Units (CPDs):\nMembers of ICPAK and those from reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 2 Structured CPD Units upon successful completion of the workshop. \nFinancial Commitment:\nThe workshop charges are Kshs. 1\,000. SUMMARY:ISA 220- Quality control for an audit of financial statements webinar
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nISA 220- Quality control for an audit of Financial Statements Webinar\nDate: 10th November  2026\nTime: 04.00pm-06.00pm\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nThe quality of an audit is fundamental to maintaining public trust in the accountancy profession and enhancing confidence in financial reporting. In an increasingly complex business environment characterized by evolving regulatory requirements\, technological advancements\, heightened stakeholder expectations\, and emerging risks\, audit firms and engagement teams are under greater pressure to consistently deliver high-quality audit engagements. \nRecognizing the need to strengthen audit quality\, the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) introduced a new suite of quality management standards\, including International Standard on Auditing (ISA) 220\, Quality Management for an Audit of Financial Statements. The revised standard shifts the focus from traditional quality control procedures to a proactive and risk-based approach to quality management at the engagement level. \nISA 220 places greater responsibility on the engagement partner for managing and achieving quality throughout the audit engagement. The standard emphasizes leadership\, professional skepticism\, appropriate direction and supervision of engagement teams\, effective use of resources\, and ongoing evaluation of whether quality objectives are being achieved. It also aligns with International Standard on Quality Management ISQM 1 and ISQM 2\, creating a comprehensive framework for managing audit quality at both the firm and engagement levels. \nAs firms continue to implement quality management systems\, it is essential for engagement partners\, managers\, auditors\, and quality reviewers to understand their responsibilities under ISA 220 and how these requirements translate into practical actions throughout the audit lifecycle. Effective application of the standard contributes to improved audit execution\, stronger documentation\, enhanced professional judgment\, and greater confidence in audit opinions. \nThis webinar will provide participants with practical insights into the requirements of ISA 220 (Revised)\, the role of the engagement partner in achieving audit quality\, and best practices for embedding quality management into audit engagements across different jurisdictions and practice environments. \n\nUnderstanding the New Quality Management Framework\nCommon challenges and lessons learned in establishing effective quality management systems.\nInteraction between ISA 220 (Revised)\, ISQM 1\, and ISQM 2\nLeadership responsibilities for managing and achieving quality on audits\nFirms system of quality management and role of engagement teams\nRelevant ethical requirements\, including those related to independence\nRole and responsibilities of the engagement partner\nConsultation & documentation requirements\n\nTarget Audience: \nThis webinar will be useful to all professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the profession\, Internal and External Auditors\, Consultants and Advisors \nContinuous Professional Development Units (CPDs):\nMembers of ICPAK and those from reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 2 Structured CPD Units upon successful completion of the workshop. \nFinancial Commitment:\nThe workshop charges are Kshs. 1\,000. SUMMARY:Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants webinar
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nCode of Ethics for Professional Accountants webinar\nDate: 2nd December 2026\nTime: 02.00pm-04.00pm\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nProfessional accountants are often confronted with ethical issues in discharging their mandate. These ethical issues emanate from interactions with both internal and external stakeholders of the organizations they work for. This is happening against a background of heightened unethical corporate behaviors and scandals at local and international levels. At the local level\, for example\, financial scandals involving large corporate entities have not only led to immense economic losses to the shareholders and owners but have also negatively impacted the economic growth of the country\, robbing future generations of crucial economic opportunities. \nIt is important to note that one profession that is often castigated and blamed whenever financial scandals are exposed to the public limelight is the accountancy profession. This is often because of the pivotal role accountants play in an economy. It therefore goes without saying that accountants are indeed custodians of public trust and are required to always conduct themselves ethically for them to win and maintain trust from their employers\, fellow employees\, and the public. \nIn view of the above-mentioned issues\, the Institute has organized a virtual webinar -Ethics for professional accountants.  During the webinar\, participants will be exposed to ICPAK’s professional code of ethics based on the IESBA Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants. The webinar will focus on the following topical areas: \n\nAn overview of ICPAK’s code of ethics\nPractical application of the principles of the code of ethics and threats to independence\nCurrent emerging ethical issues for accountants\n\nTarget Audience: \nThis webinar will be useful to all professional Accountants and those aspiring to join the profession\, Internal and External Auditors\, Consultants and Advisors \nContinuous Professional Development Units (CPDs):\nMembers of ICPAK and those from reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 2 Structured CPD Units upon successful completion of the webinar. \nFinancial Commitment:\nThe workshop charges are Kshs. 1\,000. SUMMARY:Leadership by Design- Practical Tips for New Managers and Supervisors
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nLeadership by Design- Practical Tips for New Managers and Supervisors\nDate: 8th December  2026\nTime: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nOverview \nLeadership by design is the deliberate practice of shaping your leadership approach with intention rather than allowing it to emerge reactively from daily pressures. For new managers\, this means treating leadership as a craft you actively engineer—defining your values\, systems\, and behaviours upfront. Leaders start by conducting a personal audit: reflect on your strengths\, past experiences\, and the kind of leader you want to become. This foundational clarity prevents you from defaulting to old habits or mimicking ineffective bosses\, creating a consistent leadership identity from day one. \nOne practical tip is to design clear structures for goal setting and accountability. New managers often struggle with ambiguity\, so implement weekly one-on-ones and quarterly engagements tailored to your team. Use simple templates to align individual tasks with broader team objectives and make progress visible through shared dashboards or boards. By designing these rhythms early\, you foster predictability and momentum. This system not only drives results but also signals to your team that leadership is thoughtful and organized\, building trust faster than sporadic check-ins ever could. \nEffective leadership by design prioritizes empowering others over micromanaging. Delegate meaningful responsibilities by mapping team members’ strengths and growth areas\, then create “ownership charters” that outline decision rights and success metrics for each role. Schedule regular calibration meetings to review what’s working without hovering. This approach frees you to focus on strategic work while developing your people. New managers who design delegation frameworks report higher team engagement and fewer bottlenecks\, turning potential chaos into scalable performance. \nCommunication is another area ripe for intentional design. Establish a feedback culture through structured engagements while granting room for feedback on self. Design your availability—such as office hours or response-time SLAs—to model balance and accessibility. New managers should also practice radical candour in private while celebrating wins publicly. These designed touchpoints reduce misunderstandings and create psychological safety\, essential for high-performing teams. \nFinally\, build adaptability into your leadership system through continuous learning loops. Set aside time each month for personal reflection\, peer mentoring\, or skill-building courses amongst other avenues. Treat failures as design experiments: analyse what broke\, iterate on your approach\, and document lessons. For new managers\, this meta-habit prevents stagnation and demonstrates humility. Leadership by design is never static—it evolves with evidence\, ensuring you grow alongside your team while delivering sustainable results. \nTARGET AUDIENCE \nThis webinar will be useful for new managers and supervisors from all professions who aim to enhance their individual and team leadership skills. \n CPD Units: \nMembers who attend the webinar in full will earn 2 Structured CPD Units. \nFinancial Commitment:\nThe Webinar charges are Kshs. 1\,000.
