SUMMARY:International Taxes and Transfer Pricing Workshop -Mandatory Training
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nInternational Taxes & Transfer Pricing Workshop\nDate: 6th – 7th May 2026\nTime: 9.00-4.00PM\nMode Of Delivery: Virtual\n(This is one of the mandatory training courses for practicing certificate consideration) \nOverview \nThe world business environment has continued to change in ways that blur borders and extend the reach of enterprises beyond domestic jurisdictions. As cross-border transactions have become more routine\, the tax complexities associated with such activities have mounted and the level of scrutiny applied to them has intensified. Compliance regimes are being clamped down globally\, multinational groups rethink operating models\, and professional accountants are expected to show deeper competence in international taxation regimes and transfer pricing principles. In this setting\, practitioners serving clients with either regional or global footprints must therefore balance strategic tax planning with strict adherence to the law. \nThis workshop aims to provide a reflective yet practical look into international taxation and transfer pricing\, focusing on the realities faced by Kenyan entities involved in cross-border arrangements. It combines issues of current concern\, regulator expectations\, and technical guidance that practitioners need to internalize in meeting their competency obligations. Participants will have a greater insight into how the multinational groups structure their operations\, how the tax authorities construe such arrangements\, and how accountants can assist in complying without unduly compromising sound commercial decisions. \nWith the increased attention that the OECD\, the African Tax Administration Forum\, and KRA are giving to the fair taxation of multinational operations\, this workshop will demystify selected technical concepts using case studies and regulatory updates. This is also an avenue through which practitioners can reflect on how domestic tax rules interact with evolving international standards\, particularly with respect to transfer pricing documentation\, resolution of disputes\, and management of tax risks. Each session is structured in a way that enhances both theoretical and practical insights to ensure that participants leave the sessions with information they can apply directly in client advisory\, audits\, and organization tax planning. \nIn the end\, the program reinforces ICPAK’s commitment to enhancing the professional competence of its members\, especially those studying for or maintaining a Practicing Certificate. The workshop deepens appreciation of various international tax dynamics and transfer pricing obligations\, thus enabling practitioners to contribute towards ensuring that the profession upholds integrity and\, by extension\, supports transparent\, equitable tax practices in an increasingly interdependent economy. \nAreas to be covered: – \n\nOverview of International Taxation Frameworks and transfer pricing and Recent global developments\nRegulatory Frameworks\n\n\nOECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines\nArm’s Length Principle\nLocal country TP regulations (overview)\nDocumentation requirements: Master File\, Local File\, Country-by-Country Reporting\n\n\nUnderstanding Inter-company Transactions\nFunctional Analysis (FAR Analysis)\nTransfer Pricing Methods\n\n\nTraditional transaction methods:\nComparable Uncontrolled Price (CUP)\nResale Price Method (RPM)\nCost Plus Method\nTransactional profit methods:\nTNMM\nProfit Split Method\nMethod selection and hierarchy and Strengths and weaknesses of each method\n\n\nTransfer Pricing for Specific Transactions-Intercompany services and management fees\, IP licensing and royalties\, Cost contribution arrangements (CCAs)\, Financial transactions.\nTransfer Pricing Documentation\nTransfer Pricing Risk Management\nPractical Case Studies & Workshops- Industry-specific TP issues (manufacturing\, technology\, financial services etc)\nDigital economy and TP challenges\n\nTarget Audience \nThe workshop is suitable for tax practitioners\, audit professionals\, finance managers\, consultants\, accountants working in multinational organizations\, regulatory officers\, and members pursuing the Practicing Certificate. \nContinuous Professional Development Units (CPD UNITS): \nMembers of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 10 Structured CPD Units upon successfully completion of the virtual symposium. \nFinancial Commitment \nThe symposium charges are Kshs.10\,000. With the rapid adoption of sustainability reporting frameworks and the alignment of financial and non-financial information\, professionals must deepen their understanding of the evolving assurance landscape. \nThe shift toward standardized sustainability reporting\, especially with the introduction of IFRS S1 and S2 by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)\, alongside established frameworks such as GRI\, SASB and local regulatory requirements\, has created a need for consistent application and interpretation. These frameworks provide the structure for identifying material ESG issues\, defining reporting boundaries and ensuring comparability across organizations and industries. \nClimate-related disclosures have emerged as integral to sustainability reporting. Accordingly\, understanding Scope 1\, Scope 2\, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions become increasingly important as an entity measures and reports on its environmental impact. Accurate measurement and disclosure of emissions are increasingly linked to both financial reporting and enterprise risk management-factors that make this an area of significant focus during sustainability assurance engagements. \nHigh-quality ESG assurance requires quality internal controls\, reliable data systems\, and robust verification procedures. Practitioners should keep in mind the special challenges that arise when assessing ESG risks\, testing control environments\, and gathering evidence during limited or reasonable assurance engagements\, which are different from those encountered in traditional financial audits. The effective collection of data\, proper structuring of documentation\, and rigorous processes for verification are very important for credible sustainability reporting to the expectations of regulators and investors and wider stakeholders. \nThe workshop will highlight key aspects of Sustainability Assurance relating to the following: \nOverview of Sustainability Assurance \n\nThe purpose and importance of sustainability assurance.\nThe role of accountants and auditors in verifying ESG information.\nHow sustainability assurance enhances stakeholder confidence and transparency.\nKey drivers pushing organizations toward independent ESG assurance\n\n Regulatory and Reporting Frameworks \n\nGlobal frameworks: GRI\, SASB\, ISSB\, IFRS S1 & S2.\nLocal sustainability reporting requirements and regulations.\nAlignment between global standards and local regulatory expectations.\nEmerging disclosure requirements for climate\, social\, and governance metrics.\n\nGreenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions and Climate Reporting \n\nUnderstanding Scope 1\, 2\, and 3 emissions.\nRelevance of GHG reporting to financial and sustainability disclosures.\nGHG accounting methodologies and boundary setting (operational vs. organizational).\nTransition risks\, climate scenarios\, and their impact on disclosures.\n\nSustainability Assurance Engagements \n\nUnpacking International Standard on Sustainability Assurance (ISSA) 5000\nTypes of assurance: limited vs. reasonable.\nKey procedures and differences from traditional financial audits.\nIndependence\, ethical requirements\, and assurance provider qualifications.\nCommon challenges encountered during sustainability assurance engagements.\n\nData Collection\, Verification\, and Reporting \n\nBest practices for ESG data collection and quality control.\nVerification techniques and third-party assurance.\nData governance\, documentation\, and internal record-keeping standards.\nUse of technology and digital tools for ESG data management and reporting.\n\nESG Risk Management and Internal Controls \n\nIntegrating ESG risks into enterprise risk management.\nEnsuring accuracy and reliability of sustainability reporting.\nDesigning internal controls to support ESG data integrity and assurance readiness.\nMonitoring\, evaluation\, and continuous improvement of ESG risk processes.\n\nTarget Audience: \nThis training will be useful to all professional Accountants and professionals from all relevant cross-cutting disciplines since sustainability reporting and the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards are professional agnostic. \nContinuous Professional Development Units (CPD Units): \nMembers of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 10 CPD Units upon successfully attending the session. \nCost: \nCharges for the training will be Kes 10\,000/= which will cover workshop fees\, materials\, and e-certificates of attendance. \nOnline Booking: \nWe call on Seminar participants to note that booking for is available only online at www.icpak.com/events and will close two hours before the training session.  Delegates are reminded to note that online booking for training sessions is mandatory.   This is available either online at www.icpak.com/events  or on the ICPAK Live – A smart phone-based application that is available from google store. \nNational Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement: \nThe Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority. SUMMARY:Audit Quality Assurance Workshop-mandatory training
DESCRIPTION:THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nAudit Quality Assurance Workshop – Mandatory Training\nDate: 22nd-23rd July 2026\nTime: 9.00am-3.30pm daily\nDelivery Mode: Virtual \nTheme: Strengthening Audit Quality for Public Trust & Professional Excellence \n(This is one of the mandatory training courses for Practicing Certificate consideration) \nOverview \nAudit Quality Assurance remains the cornerstone of public confidence in financial reporting and the credibility of the accounting profession. In Kenya\, auditors operate within an increasingly demanding environment characterized by heightened regulatory oversight\, frequent quality inspections\, complex reporting frameworks\, expanded stakeholder expectations\, and growing exposure to litigation and reputational risk. These realities place audit quality not just as a technical requirement\, but as a strategic professional imperative. \nDespite significant regulatory progress and the adoption of international auditing and quality management standards\, inspection findings and practice reviews continue to reveal persistent gaps in key areas such as audit planning\, risk assessment\, documentation quality\, use of professional judgment\, audit evidence\, ethical compliance\, and firm-level quality management systems. Many practitioners still grapple with balancing commercial pressures\, client expectations\, independence requirements\, and the need for consistent\, high-quality audit execution. \nIn the Kenyan context\, auditors must also contend with complex public sector engagements\, evolving corporate governance standards\, procurement-driven audit risks\, and weak internal control environments in some institutions. These dynamics heighten exposure to audit failure\, fraud risk\, and regulatory sanctions—underscoring the urgent need for continuous professional upskilling focused on practical audit quality assurance. \nThis 2-Day Virtual Audit Quality Assurance Symposium is therefore designed as a focused\, practical\, and capacity-building forum to strengthen the foundations of audit quality in Kenya. It will address the entire audit quality value chain—from engagement acceptance\, planning\, and risk assessment to execution\, reporting\, ethics\, and firm-wide quality management. The symposium will also emphasize regulatory expectations\, inspection readiness\, and proactive quality control as essential components of sustainable audit practice. \nThrough practitioner-led discussions\, regulatory insights\, case studies\, and experience-sharing\, participants will be equipped with practical tools\, renewed professional judgment\, and structured quality assurance approaches to enhance consistency\, reduce audit failure risk\, and reinforce compliance with international standards. Ultimately\, the symposium seeks to reposition audit quality as a professional culture—not merely a compliance obligation—anchored in integrity\, competence\, and accountability. \n\nAudit Quality as a Professional Culture\n\n\nPositioning audit quality beyond compliance into a firm-wide culture anchored on integrity\, objectivity\, and public interest responsibility.\n\n\nRisk-Based Audit Planning & Professional Judgment\n\n\nStrengthening auditors’ capacity to conduct robust risk assessments\, exercise sound professional judgment\, and design responsive audit strategies in complex and high-risk environments.\n\n\nAudit Execution\, Evidence & Documentation Excellence\n\n\nEnhancing the quality of audit testing\, audit evidence sufficiency\, and documentation standards to meet regulatory inspection expectations and withstand legal and professional scrutiny.\n\n\nEthics\, Independence & Managing Commercial Pressures\n\n\nReinforcing ethical compliance\, independence safeguards\, and conflict management amidst client pressure\, competition\, advocacy threats\, and economic constraints.\n\n\nFirm-Level Quality Management Systems (ISQM 1 & 2)\n\n\nPractical implementation of Quality Management Systems at the firm and engagement partner level\, focusing on leadership responsibility\, engagement quality reviews\, monitoring\, and continuous improvement.\n\n\nRegulatory Expectations\, Inspections & Practice Review Readiness\n\n\nPreparing practitioners for ICPAK and external regulator inspections through proactive quality controls\, common inspection findings\, remediation strategies\, and sustainable compliance approaches.\n\nTarget Audience  \nThe virtual symposium is not limited to accountancy only\, staff from other units are highly encouraged to attend. \n Continuous Professional Development Units (CPD UNITS): \nMembers of ICPAK and reciprocating professional bodies will be awarded 10 Structured CPD Units upon successful completion of the virtual symposium. \nFinancial Commitment \nThe symposium charges are Kshs. 10\,000. SUMMARY:ANNUAL PRACTITIONERS CONVENTION-Mandatory Training (physical option)
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nANNUAL PRACTITIONERS’ CONVENTION\nTheme: Enhancing quality and efficiency in audit\, tax and advisory engagements\nDate: 12th – 14th August 2026\nTime: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm\nVenue: Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa\, Mombasa \n(This is one of the mandatory trainings for Practicing Certificate consideration) \nOVERVIEW \nThe accountancy profession has undergone significant developments and experienced a lot of evolution over the past few years.  In recent years\, the global accounting profession has undergone significant transformation due to rapid technological advancements\, evolving regulatory frameworks\, increasing stakeholder expectations\, and the growing emphasis on sustainability and ethics. The audit environment has particularly experienced tremendous developments arising from the effect of new emerging and stringent regulations and standards among other social and economic developments.  This has also happened to the other areas of the profession which has necessitated the change of approach and tact in delivering professional accountancy engagements\, to align with rapid developments in technology\, geopolitical risks and stringent regulations. \nIn this dynamic environment\, audit practitioners\, tax professionals\, management consultants\, and accounting practitioners must remain agile and well-informed to maintain professional competence and deliver value to clients and stakeholders. This makes it imperative for practitioners to continually update their knowledge and skills in key emerging areas such as sustainability reporting and assurance\, artificial intelligence (AI)\, blockchain technology\, and Anti-Money Laundering Policies. \nIn Kenya\, we have witnessed growing pressure on the audit profession to meet the heightened expectations of regulators\, boards\, and the investing public following reported major frauds affecting the public such as KUSCCO and OAG reports on county expenditure. Practitioners consequently must shift towards risk-based auditing and value-driven assurance\, demanding rigorous application of the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs). Furthermore\, practitioners are today expected to strengthen their forensic capabilities\, leveraging data analytics and applying enhanced professional skepticism to detect anomalies and respond to fraud risks early. Practitioners are also faced with challenges revolving around compliance with regulations such as KRA\, SASRA\, RBA and AML. \nAs practitioners face expanding roles and increased public scrutiny\, soft skills such as communication\, leadership\, ethical decision-making\, and client management are no longer optional; they are critical enablers of success. This forum is therefore designed not only to advance technical mastery but also to empower audit professionals to lead with confidence\, integrity\, and agility in today’s complex assurance landscape. \nIt is against this background that the Institute has organized a three-day forum to discuss these critical developments which affect the practitioners in the different categories of practice\, and the accountancy profession at large and seek to address the rising concerns of work quality while ensuring that efficiency in undertaking engagements is maintained.  The Annual Practitioners Convention aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing\, professional development\, and networking among Practitioners. DESCRIPTION:THE INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF KENYA\n(Established under the Accountants Act\, Laws of Kenya) \nICPAK 7TH RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2026\nTheme:  Advancing Sustainability and Innovation through Accountancy Research \nDate: 12th-14th August 2026 \nTime: 09.00am-03.30pm\nVenue: ICPAK Auditorium CPA Centre\, Nairobi \nOVERVIEW \nThe 7th ICPAK Research Conference\, themed “Advancing Sustainability and Innovation Through Accountancy Research\,”\, seeks to bring together practitioners\, academics\, policymakers\, regulators\, researchers\, and industry stakeholders to explore how accountancy research can advance sustainability and innovation. \nGlobally\, integrating sustainability into business strategy and financial decisions has become essential to achieving long-term growth. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals\, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change\, and Kenya’s development frameworks\, including Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda\, emphasize the need to balance economic growth with ESG responsibility. \nDespite the existence of these frameworks\, empirical studies show that while there has been increased adoption of sustainability and ESG reporting\, their integration into financial management and reporting remains limited. Many institutions continue to approach sustainability and innovation as separate functions\, resulting in inconsistent application in business and public sector decision-making. \nAt the same time\, developments in artificial intelligence and financial technology are redefining how performance is measured and value is reported. However\, the accountancy profession faces the challenge of adapting to technological change while ensuring that ethical and sustainability-driven practices remain central to financial management. \nThe 7th Research Conference\, therefore\, seeks to address this gap by providing a platform for the sharing of research findings and emerging trends to strengthen sustainability and shape the future of the accountancy profession in Kenya and beyond. \n\nRATIONALE\n\nThe rationale for the conference is grounded in key global and national developments\, outlined as follows: \n\nInternational reporting standards such as IFRS S1 and S2 have highlighted the need for reliable and comparable disclosures. Accountancy research on these areas can strengthen sustainability and integrated reporting and improve investor and stakeholder confidence.\nEconomies are facing increasing risks from climate-related risks such as droughts and floods\, which pose a threat to economic growth and stability. Accountancy research can illuminate best practices and develop frameworks for climate financial management.\nEmerging technologies such as AI\, blockchain\, big data analytics\, and fintech are transforming financial management\, auditing\, and reporting. Although these tools enhance efficiency\, they also raise important ethical governance and data protection concerns that require more research and policy alignment.\nKenya’s transition to accrual-based public sector accounting and ongoing reforms present opportunities to improve accountability and fiscal sustainability. Accountancy research can assess the impact of these reforms\, identify implementation gaps\, and propose strategies to enhance public sector governance.\n\n\nSUB-THEMES OF THE 7TH RESEARCH CONFERENCE\n\nThe conference will focus on five key thematic areas: \n\nAccounting and Financial Reporting\nTaxation and Public Finance Management\nInnovation and Digital Transformation\nRisk Analysis and Financial Management\nAccountability and Auditing\n\n\nSUBMISSIONS OF ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS\n\nThe Institute invites submission of abstracts and papers from researchers in the following accountancy-related thematic areas; \n\n\n\nS/N\nThematic Area \nSub-Topics \n \n\n\n\n\n1.    \nAccounting and Financial Reporting \n \n\n\nIntegrated and ESG reporting frameworks (IFRS S1 & S2)\nMeasurement and disclosure of environmental\, social\, and governance (ESG) performance\nAccounting for carbon credits\, natural capital\, and environmental assets\nEnhancing credibility and assurance in non-financial reporting\nThe evolving role of accountants in organizational transformation\n\n\n\n\n2.    \nTaxation and Public Finance Management \n \n\n\nGreen taxation\nIntegrating ESG principles into budgeting and fiscal policy\nPublic sector accountability for achieving development goals\nFinancing climate adaptation\nEconomic implications of carbon pricing and non-financial disclosures\n\n\n\n\n3.    \nInnovation and Digital Transformation\n\n\nDigital platforms for integrated and ESG reporting\nLeveraging AI\, big data\, and blockchain for transparency\nFintech innovations\nData analytics in tracking resource efficiency and performance metrics\nCybersecurity and ethics in digital reporting systems\n\n\n\n\n4.    \nRisk Analysis and Financial Management\n\n\nGreen bonds\, impact investing\, and responsible financing instruments\nClimate-related and ESG risk assessment and disclosure\nIntegrating non-financial factors into capital allocation and decision-making\nManaging risks in evolving business models\nLong-term value creation and performance measurement frameworks\n\n\n\n\n5.    \nAccountability and Auditing \n \n\n\nAuditing of ESG reports\nThe auditor’s role in promoting transparency and ethical conduct\nCombating greenwashing through reporting and verification\nGovernance mechanisms supporting responsible business practices\nEmerging audit methodologies for environmental and social disclosures\n\n \n\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT DATES\n\nResearchers interested in presenting papers should use the link provided and the attached Submission of Instructions Form on the dates specified below: \n\nExpression of interest: 27th February 2026\nDeadline for submission of abstracts: 15th May 2026\nNotification of acceptance of abstracts 6th June 2026\nDeadline for submission of full papers: 30th June 2026\nNotification of acceptance of paper: 14th July 2026\nPresentation of Papers at 7th Research Conference: 12th – 14th August 2026\n\n\nSUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS\n\n\nResearchers interested in presenting at the conference should submit an expression of interest on or before 20th March 2026 at xxxxxxxxxxxxxx\nSubmissions should be in English and should be sent electronically to research@icpak.com. Unlike traditional standards designed for for-profit entities\, INPAS is a standalone\, accrual-based framework tailored to the unique realities of charities\, NGOs\, foundations\, and other nonprofits. It streamlines the preparation of annual audited financial statements and grant reports\, addressing long-standing issues like fragmented reporting requirements and the complexities of restricted funding. \nOne of the primary objectives of INPAS is to enhance transparency\, accountability\, and trust in nonprofit finances worldwide. It establishes a consistent foundation for financial reporting that improves the quality and comparability of NPO statements. By providing decision-useful information\, it balances the needs of preparers (reducing administrative burden) with those of donors\, regulators\, and other stakeholders who rely on clear\, reliable data for informed decision-making. This global consistency helps NPOs operating across borders avoid the inefficiency of complying with multiple\, often conflicting national or donor-specific rules. \nINPAS places strong emphasis on the proper recognition and presentation of grants and donations\, distinguishing clearly between restricted and unrestricted funds. It offers detailed guidance on accrual accounting practices suited to nonprofits\, such as when to recognize income from multi-year grants or in-kind contributions. Additionally\, it promotes integrated narrative reporting that goes beyond numbers to cover organizational activities\, governance\, risks\, impact\, and sustainability—reflecting that nonprofit success is measured by mission outcomes as much as financial metrics. \nThe standard was designed to reduce reporting burdens while raising the bar for quality. It includes harmonized grant reporting practices (supported by a dedicated Practice Guide) that allow project-level reports to reconcile easily with whole-of-entity financial statements. This helps minimize duplicative efforts when dealing with multiple funders\, freeing up resources for programmatic work rather than excessive compliance. Many organizations\, especially smaller ones\, stand to benefit from its simplified yet robust structure compared to adapting IFRS or other commercial standards. \nAdoption of INPAS is gaining momentum\, with early adoption encouraged. It is freely available for download from the official INPRF website\, along with implementation guides. As more NPOs and regulators embrace it\, the standard is expected to elevate sector credibility\, attract more funding by building donor confidence\, and foster greater international collaboration in the nonprofit space. \nOverall\, INPAS represents a transformative step for the nonprofit sector\, filling a critical gap that existed for decades. By providing a dedicated\, practical\, and internationally recognized framework\, it empowers organizations to focus more on their missions while maintaining high standards of financial stewardship and accountability. Its development “by the sector\, for the sector” ensures relevance and usability across diverse contexts\, from large international NGOs to local community groups.
