On Wednesday, 14th September 2011 the members of the East African Community Institutes of Accountants – EACIA, the body of professional accountancy Institutes in the East African Community Region and comprises of the professional accountancy bodies from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi, met in Entebbe Uganda to sign a Mutual Recognition Agreement. Each institute was a signatory to the agreement in its own name.

The EACIA Mutual Recognition Agreement was negotiated along the annex on Free Movement Services of EAC Common Market Protocol. The MRA thus will serve to create an avenue through which the East Africa Community integration process will take effect.

By the signing of this MRA, professional accountants in Kenya, can access practice opportunities within the wider East African Community region. ICPAK is indeed seeking to open markets beyond the national borders for its members. However, and in the spirit of regional integration, the MRA envisages stronger and well developed institutes like ICPAK lending a helping hand to relatively younger and less developed Institutes, a role that ICPAK is well positioned to effectively play.

The Institute will continue to scout for value proposing partnerships with the long-term objective of positioning the CPA-K brand as a strong and globally recognized brand. This is but the first step towards hastening the global recognition of the CPA-K brand.

In case of any queries on these developments, you are encouraged to get in touch with ICPAK Secretariat representative, CPA Fredrick Riaga on fredrick.riaga@icpak.com.
