The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) have launched launched the Kenya IFRS S1 & S2 Readiness Report 2026 at a breakfast meeting held in Nairobi on 17 September 2026, under the theme “Building Kenya’s Sustainability Reporting Ecosystem.” The launch brought together key stakeholders to discuss Kenya’s preparedness for sustainability-related financial disclosures.
The report assesses the preparedness of 385 Public Interest Entities (PIEs) across seven regulated sectors for IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 reporting. It records a national readiness score of 1.51 out of 4, placing Kenya in the “Emerging” readiness band. Governance was the strongest pillar at 1.60/4, while Metrics and Targets was the weakest at 1.22/4.
With mandatory IFRS S1 and S2 reporting for PIEs applying to accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, the report provides a national baseline to help organisations identify priority gaps and strengthen their readiness for sustainability-related financial disclosures.
