On 30th September 2026, the Institute renewed its engagement with the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This marks a significant step in aligning the accountancy profession with Kenya’s public audit agenda. The partnership brings together the OAG’s constitutional mandate and ICPAK’s professional expertise to expand audit capacity, raise audit quality and build greater public trust in the management of public resources.
The OAG delegation was led by the Auditor-General, FCPA Nancy Gathungu, along with other senior officers of the Office. For its part, the ICPAK delegation was led by the Chairman, CPA Prof. Elizabeth Kalunda, accompanied by the Vice Chairman, FCPA Benard Amukah, and the ICPAK Secretariat led by the Chief Executive Officer, CPA Dr. Grace Kamau.
The MoU sets out a strategic framework anchored on four pillars. First, it expands audit capacity by outsourcing audit services to ICPAK practitioners, supported by joint quality review and assurance and a jointly developed training and accreditation programme. Second, it strengthens devolution by building the capacity of county finance, internal audit, procurement and accounting officers across all 47 counties. Third, it deepens knowledge and professional growth through joint research, information sharing and continuous professional development for OAG staff. Fourth, it places citizens at the centre of accountability through the Citizen Accountability Audit Framework, which will mainstream public participation and simplify audit findings for wider understanding.
Both parties emphasised that the MoU’s value lies in its implementation, and committed to translating the partnership into measurable improvements in audit coverage, quality and impact for Kenyans.
ICPAK remains committed to leveraging the profession’s expertise to support national institutions, strengthen public financial management and advance a culture of transparency and accountability.
