Date: 3rd -4th July 2025
Time: 09.00am -3.30pm
Venue: Pride Inn Hotel, Diani.

Overview

Across the globe, audit failures continue to expose critical gaps in risk identification, fraud detection, and documentation quality. This is despite significant investment in tools and training. These persistent deficiencies, often flagged in regulatory inspections, point to a deeper issue: the need for a transformative shift in audit practice. As emerging technologies, complex fraud schemes, and tightening regulatory demands reshape the audit landscape, traditional procedural audits are no longer sufficient. Instead, auditors must adopt a more strategic, investigative, and risk-responsive approach to remain relevant and effective.

In Kenya, this global shift is echoed through growing pressure on the audit profession to meet the heightened expectations of regulators, boards, and the investing public. The profession is moving decisively toward risk-based auditing and value-driven assurance, demanding rigorous application of the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs). Central to this evolution are the revised ISA 315, which focuses on robust identification and assessment of risks of material misstatement, and ISA 220 (Revised), which emphasizes quality management at the engagement level. These standards are not only compliance tools – they are frameworks for delivering insightful, high-quality audits in a dynamic business environment.

Many audit practitioners in Kenya today experience difficulties auditing financial statements of firms prepared using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This challenge is particularly more pronounced for audit firms in the small category operating either as sole proprietorship or as small partnership. A fundamental challenge faced by these firms revolves around inadequate financial resources and human resource to support deployment of effective audit skills and technical competencies for ERP systems of their clients.

In today’s digital economy, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are becoming the norm rather than the exception for many businesses as they seek to enhance efficiency in their operations. It is therefore becoming increasingly important that audit practitioners of all categories and in all sectors of the economy have the requisite capacities to undertake effective audit of ERP based systems. Indeed, ERP today plays a pivotal role in managing an organization’s financial data, operations, and resources. As businesses increasingly rely on complex ERP platforms, the need for auditors to understand and competently audit these systems has become essential. However, many accounting professionals have limited formal training on how to approach the unique risks, controls, and audit techniques specific to ERP environments.

Based on these crucial developments, ICPAK has organized a 2-day CPD event focused on equipping its members with the knowledge and practical skills required for an audit engagement with special focus on audit of ERP systems. The training focuses on following topics:
