Overview

Given the current complex and fast-evolving business environment, professional accountants are increasingly faced with ethical dilemmas that require sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to public interest. Its imperative for professional accountants to achieve ethical decision-making in financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and advisory services. This is reinforced by the prevalence of  several high-profile accounting scandals that underscore the need for strengthening ethical standards in the profession.

By adhering to ethical principles, accountants uphold the trust and confidence of stakeholders which contributes to the integrity of financial markets, complying with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining professionalism, and managing risks. This fulfills their professional obligations with integrity and accountability.

In recent years, there has also been a sharp rise in demand for sustainability information such as in relation to environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters. As this demand continue to expand rapidly, there is a pressing public interest to ensure that such information is trustworthy and comparable, and therefore capable of being subject to assurance. It is in the public interest that sustainability assurance practitioners act ethically to maintain public trust and confidence.  Practical ethics helps individuals and organizations steer moral complexities, foster trust, and contribute to a more ethical and just society as the reputation of the accounting profession rests on the trust that stakeholders have in the ethical behavior of accountants.

This forum aims to bridge the gap between ethical theory and practice, providing professional accountants with practical tools to identify, evaluate, and respond to ethical challenges in real-world scenarios.
