Overview

In today’s data-driven environment, organizations are increasingly relying on Business Intelligence (BI) tools to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, and strategic planning. However, many professionals lack the practical skills required to implement and use BI tools effectively. These skills gaps often result in underutilized systems, poor data visualization practices, and inefficient reporting workflows.

To address this need, the two-day Practical Course on Implementation of BI Tools is designed to equip participants with hands on experience in deploying, configuring, and using modern BI solutions. The course blends foundational knowledge with step-by-step practical exercises to ensure participants gain both conceptual understanding and real-world implementation skills. The course will be delivered through demonstrations, guided tutorials, group exercises, and real-life datasets.

1. Introduction and Core Implementation Skills

Introduction to Business Intelligence

• BI concepts, components, and architecture
• The role of BI in organizational decision-making

Getting Started with BI Tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar)

• Downloading, installation, and environment setup
• Understanding the workspace and interface

Data Connections and Integration

• Importing data from Excel, databases, and cloud sources
• Establishing live and scheduled refresh connections

Data Preparation and Modeling

• Data cleaning and transformation
• Creating relationships, measures, and calculated fields

Practical Exercises

• Connecting to datasets
• Performing basic data transformations

2. Advanced Practical Applications and Deployment

Dashboard and Report Development

• Designing effective visualizations
• Creating interactive dashboards and storytelling with data

Advanced BI Features

• DAX/Calculated formulas
• Filters, slicers, hierarchies, and drilldowns
• Using templates and reusable components

Publishing and Sharing BI Reports

• Publishing dashboards to the BI service
• User access, permissions, and security considerations
• Automating report refreshes

Real-World Simulation Exercise

• Participants work in teams to build a complete BI solution
• Presentation and feedback session

• No advanced technical background is required; however, basic computer literacy is assumed.

CPD Units:

Members who attend the course training in full will earn 10 Structured CPD Units.

Financial Commitment:
The Webinar charges are Kshs. 18,500. Charges will cater for stationery, daytime meals, learning materials, and e-certificates of attendance.

National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Reimbursement

The Institute is registered as a trainer with National Industrial Training Authority (formerly Department of Industrial Training -DIT). The Institute’s registration number is DIT/TRN/47. Participants who are registered levy contributors should apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. Please note that this is applicable for Kenyan citizens only and subject to NITA regulations.
