VENUE: CONRAD CENTENNIAL HOTEL, SINGAPORE
TIME: 09.00AM-03.30PM
THEME: DEVELOPING LEADERS TO LEAVE A LASTING AND IMPACTFUL LEGACY FOR DECADES
Overview
Senior Leadership Executives work to ensure a company’s strategies and operations align with the established plans and policies. With public companies, activities that don’t lean toward increased profits for shareholders are routinely corrected under the purview of senior management personnel. The Senior Leadership is deemed the most important and influential group of individuals within an entity. Reaching this high echelon typically requires a plethora of experience and finely-honed leadership skills. While many senior executives formerly relied on functional know-how and technical skills to climb the corporate ladder, most have cultivated more visionary perspectives needed to make sound management decisions.
Corporate governance refers to the structures and processes for the direction and control of companies. Corporate governance matters because it improves investee companies’ performance and helps develop capital markets. Sound corporate governance reduces risk, adds value to investments, and avoids reputational risks for investors. Given the strong links between good corporate governance and sustainable economic development, improving corporate governance practices has become an important element of the development mission of financial institutions
The purpose of corporate governance is to facilitate effective, entrepreneurial, and prudent management that can deliver the long-term success of the private and public sectors of our economy. Corporate governance, and the link between governance and strategic performance, remains a topical focus for public policy makers, academicians, and commentators. Despite an extensive and growing training in this field by various local and international training institutions, the link between corporate governance and performance remains elusive.
Self-management is the ability to manage one’s behaviours, thoughts, and emotions in a conscious and productive way. Someone with strong self-management skills knows what to do and how to act in different situations. For instance, they know how to control their anger under extreme circumstances. They know how to avoid distractions while working from home, so they can maintain focus and stay productive. Self-management means you understand your personal responsibility in different aspects of your life, and you do what you need to fulfil that responsibility. Self-management has its roots in emotional intelligence theory, where this capability may also be referred to as self-regulation. Self-regulation is supported by our capacity for self-awareness, which helps us create conscious access to our thoughts, desires, and feelings. Those with well-developed self-awareness and self-regulation are well-positioned to develop a set of self-management skills that support them on their work and personal journeys.
From an organizational perspective, the ability of team members to self-manage is critical to the effective functioning of an organization. Imagine an environment where the majority of those working within it were unable to stay on task, on strategy, and on schedule. That would make it very challenging to complete projects. Self-management is even more important when we talk about empowering employees across the organization to be more innovative and resourceful. When every team member understands their responsibilities, goals, and what it takes to achieve them, they can make better decisions and do their part to achieve the team and organization objectives. Part of effective self-management with empowerment is that employees make good decisions about when to seek additional help or input.
Members of the senior leadership are expected to possess strong technical skills related to their position. This can be through continuous learning and interactions with other peers in the industry and from a global environment. The members of this influential club of employees should be consummate experts in their respective areas of specialization, ensuring that they guide their teams in the best way possible to achieve organizational objectives and goals. They are expected to possess a strong strategic mindset and exceptional leadership skills, capable of making high-quality decisions and managing conflict, and are adaptable.
It is against this background that the Institute has structured this Senior Leadership Seminar to discuss these critical developments which affect modern-day leaders, To guide the discussion during the Seminar, the following shall be the main topics of discussion:
