Sustainability Reporting Workshop 2026
Theme: : Advancing Sustainability Reporting: From Readiness to Implementation
Date: 21st-22nd October 2026
Time: 9.00am-3.30pm
Delivery Mode: Virtual

Overview

Corporate reporting is undergoing a profound transformation as investors, regulators, lenders and other stakeholders increasingly demand transparent, reliable and decision-useful information on sustainability-related risks and opportunities. Organizations are now expected to demonstrate not only their financial performance but also how environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors influence their strategy, governance, risk management, and long-term value creation.

The introduction of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) marks a significant milestone in the evolution of corporate reporting. These standards establish a global baseline for sustainability-related financial disclosures, enabling organizations to provide consistent, comparable and investor-focused sustainability information alongside their financial statements.

In Kenya, the publication of the ICPAK Roadmap for Adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards signals a strategic commitment to advancing sustainability reporting and aligning the country’s reporting framework with international best practice. Consequently, sustainability reporting is rapidly transitioning from a voluntary practice to an essential component of corporate reporting and governance.

Despite these developments, many organizations remain inadequately prepared to implement the new reporting requirements. Preparers of financial statements and sustainability reports continue to face significant challenges in understanding the principles underpinning IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. They encounter challenges in identifying material sustainability-related risks and opportunities, collecting reliable data, establishing effective governance structures and integrating sustainability information into existing reporting processes.

As organizations embark on this transition, there is an urgent need to build technical capacity among finance professionals, accountants and report preparers to ensure that sustainability disclosures are credible, consistent, comparable and decision-useful. Equally important is strengthening institutional readiness to support effective implementation and compliance with the emerging reporting landscape including GHG accounting and as well as sustainability assurance readiness.

This symposium has therefore been designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to understand and implement the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. Successful implementation of this training will significantly enhance the quality and reliability of sustainability reporting across both the public and private sectors.

The workshop will focus on the following key topics:
