Its members work in diverse sectors of the economy as accountants, financial experts, auditors, financial consultants among other careers within the larger definition of accountancy. Over 1500 of our members have emigrated and are working beyond the borders of Kenya. Members of the Institute are present in 44 different countries around the globe.

ANNUAL SEMINARS – A BRIEF HISTORY

For over four decades, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) has sustained a strong tradition of convening its members annually to reflect on the evolving accountancy profession and emerging issues shaping the national, regional and global landscape. Since the inaugural Annual Seminar held in 1984, the forum has grown into the Institute’s flagship professional development event, symbolizing resilience, unity and the profession’s unwavering commitment to the public interest.

This edition aims to discuss how trust and credibility remain fundamental to the functioning of economies, institutions, organisations and societies. In an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world, the ability of institutions and professionals to earn, maintain and restore trust is becoming more important than ever. The global environment is being shaped by economic uncertainty, technological disruption, changing patterns of work, sustainability challenges, geopolitical developments and increasing demands for transparency and accountability. These changes are reshaping how governments, businesses and professional institutions operate and how citizens and stakeholders assess their credibility.

For Kenya, these developments come at a particularly important time. The country continues to pursue economic transformation while navigating fiscal pressures, public debt, changing global economic conditions, institutional challenges and the need for sustainable and inclusive growth. At the same time, organisations are under increasing pressure to demonstrate not only financial performance, but also responsible leadership, sustainability, resilience and long-term value creation. Against this backdrop, the accountancy profession has a critical role to play. Accountants and other professionals are entrusted with financial information, public resources, organisational decision-making and the assurance of credibility. Their responsibility therefore extends beyond technical compliance to include professional integrity, ethical leadership, accountability and the protection of the public interest.

The 43rd ICPAK Annual Seminar – Edition II therefore seeks to provide a high-level platform for professionals, policymakers, government leaders, business leaders, international organisations and other stakeholders to examine the changing nature of trust and credibility and the role of professionals in shaping Kenya’s future.
